Cocoàge Cosmetics Knows the Power of Antioxidants
For decades, scientists have recognized that antioxidants are important compounds for keeping the body healthy. But until the last several years, the antioxidants that researchers focused on were the “big” vitamins: A, C and E.
That has all changed in recent years, as researchers have picked up on the high value of flavonoids. More than 6,000 of these unique plant compounds have now been identified, and, as it turns out, they might just have more potential for healing than some of the “big” vitamins.
To find out how the flavonoids in chocolate cosmetics and other plant-based foods can help, we spoke with the skincare and beauty researchers at Cocoàge Cosmetics. Here’s what they had to say.
The Power of Flavonoids in Cocoàge Cosmetics
#1 Firming & Lifting
Chocolate contains a pair of unique flavonoids known as theobromine and theophylline. These have a firming and lifting effect on the skin to keep it looking healthy and young.
#2 Wrinkle-Fighting
The definition of an antioxidant is a component that fights inflammation from free radicals within the body. And at the skin level, these free radical attacks come in the form of skin damage that leads to wrinkles. Flavonoids in chocolate seem to play a key role in both preventing and repairing this damage.
#3 Dull, Tired Skin
Overall, flavonoids seem to enhance skin cell regeneration, which can speed up the process of old skin giving way to youthful new skin. You can just imagine what impact this can have on your overall appearance.
#4 Sun Protection
Chocolate is certainly no replacement for sunscreen, but the main free radical attacks on the skin come from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Studies have shown that the flavonoids in chocolate can minimize this damage.
#5 Blemishes
Flavonoids in general seem to provide all kinds of inflammation protection, whether it’s short-term inflammation in the form of blemishes, or long-term problems related to wrinkles.
