Rich, decadent and sweet, chocolate has historically been seen as a luxury. It’s a treat that’s good on occasion, rather than meant to be consumed every day. Now it’s becoming more widely known that chocolate enhances skin. What has prompted this change? It really comes down to the antioxidants in chocolate. As scientists have realized that antioxidants are more than just the big vitamins (A, B, C, etc.) that are found in many foods. In face, chocolate enhances skin tone. Antioxidants also contain literally thousands of micronutrients that are highly individuals to plants or families of plants. This includes nutrients such as flavonoids, polyphenols, catechins and the like. Armed with this new knowledge, scientists recently measured the antioxidant content of many different foods. And they found that chocolate had some of the highest levels of all. This gives chocolate many benefits, one of which is as a skincare product.
